1942-G German 1 Reichspfennig Swastika Coin
This 1942-G 1 Reichspfennig is an essential historical artifact struck at the Karlsruhe Mint (G). By 1942, the German war effort had reached its zenith, and the complete transition to zinc "Kriegsgeld" (war money) was finalized for lower denominations. This coin features the obverse National Emblem of a Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) holding a wreathed swastika, a hallmark of the era’s political regime. The Karlsruhe Mint "G" mark is particularly significant for collectors, as it represents the smallest mintage volume of all seven German mints for this year (approximately 59.8 million compared to Berlin's 558 million). Due to the physical properties of zinc, specimens from this period are highly susceptible to "zinc pest," a form of intergranular corrosion that can permanently pit the surface. Finding a specimen with the "G" mint mark that retains legible details and minimal oxidation is a priority for serious WWII numismatists. Please refer to the photos to assess the surface quality and detail of the eagle and swastika.
