1940-F German 5 Reichspfennig Swastika Coin
This 1940-F 5 Reichspfennig is a primary artifact of the Third Reich’s wartime economy. Struck at the Stuttgart Mint (F), this specimen features the National Emblem—a Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) perched upon a wreathed swastika—on the obverse. This specific 1940 issue represents the "Emergency Issue" transition; as the German war machine intensified, copper and nickel were requisitioned for military ballistics, forcing the mints to switch to 100% zinc. Because zinc is highly reactive to environmental moisture, examples that retain a clear, legible swastika and eagle without significant "white rust" or pitting are considered superior for historical documentation. The "F" mint mark indicates a smaller production run compared to the Berlin "A" issues, adding a layer of scarcity for type-set collectors.
