1944-F German 10 Reichspfennig Swastika Coin
This 1944-F 10 Reichspfennig is a compelling artifact from the penultimate year of the Stuttgart Mint’s wartime production. As the Allied advance intensified and domestic infrastructure faced mounting pressure, the quality of German "Kriegsgeld" (war money) began to vary significantly. Struck in 100% zinc, this piece features the National Emblem—the Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) clutching a wreathed swastika—on the obverse. While the 1944 Stuttgart issue saw a substantial mintage of approximately 66.8 million, the survival of high-quality specimens is hampered by the low-grade zinc alloys used late in the war. These late-war planchets were often prone to immediate oxidation and "zinc pest" (intergranular corrosion). Examples that retain crisp definition in the eagle’s wings and a uniform grey patina without heavy pitting are highly prioritized by historical collectors.
