1921-S Morgan Silver Dollar San Francisco Mint

This 1921-S Morgan Silver Dollar is a significant historical artifact, representing the final year of the Morgan series at the San Francisco Mint. Like the Philadelphia and Denver issues of the same year, this coin was struck to replace millions of silver dollars melted under the 1918 Pittman Act. The "S" mint mark is located on the reverse, centered above the "DO" in DOLLAR. 1921-S specimens are particularly noted for having been struck from re-engraved dies in lower relief, which often resulted in a "flat" appearance on Lady Liberty's hair and the eagle's breast. However, San Francisco strikes from this final year are frequently prized for their smooth, satiny luster compared to the more granular surfaces of Denver issues. As one of the highest mintage years for San Francisco (21.6 million), it is widely available in circulated grades but serves as a vital "type" coin for any collector documenting the end of the Morgan era. Please see photos for strike clarity and surface quality.
