1988 Vietnam 1000 Dong Banknote Ho Chi Minh Elephant Logging P-106 Note

Issued by the State Bank of Vietnam (Ngân hàng Nhà nước Việt Nam) under the official authority of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (Cộng hòa Xã hội Chủ nghĩa Việt Nam), this 1,000 Đồng banknote (Một Nghìn Đồng) carries the printed series year of 1988. Cataloged internationally in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money as Pick #106 (P-106) and The Banknote Book as B107, this historic cotton-paper emission is one of the longest-circulating classic designs in modern Southeast Asian numismatics. The obverse features an engraved portrait of the revolutionary leader and first President of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh (1890–1969), positioned alongside the national coat of arms of Vietnam, intricate circular lotus guilloche rosettes, and red serial numbering (JZ 5019540). The reverse depicts an active Central Highlands forestry scene showing timber harvesting with an Asian working elephant and mahout moving cut logs alongside workers, framed by ornate traditional scrollwork, microprinting, and denomination tablets. This emission serves as an essential type note for collectors specializing in modern Asian currency, socialist iconography, and Southeast Asian historical paper money.
