Issued by the Reserve Bank of Malawi and dated January 1, 2020, this official legal tender 50 Kwacha currency note is cataloged in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money as Pick #P-64 (Banknote Book B163). The obverse is anchored by an engraved portrait of Inkosi Ya Makhosi Philip Gomani II, the paramount chief of the Maseko Ngoni renowned for his anti-colonial resistance and defense of indigenous rights. Alongside the central portrait, the layout showcases an architectural rendering of the modern Reserve Bank of Malawi headquarters building in Lilongwe, the authorized signature of the Bank Governor, dual serial numbering, and traditional geometric textile underprint patterning.

The reverse highlights Malawi's wildlife conservation and safari tourism, centered on an engraved vignette of an African bush elephant with calf beside a safari game drive vehicle within Kasungu National Park. Accompanying elements include an outline map of Malawi with Lake Malawi, the official Reserve Bank of Malawi heraldic crest, and bold dual-corner denomination typography. Embedded security architecture across this national issue includes a color-shifting rolling bar print of a native cichlid (Chambo fish), a windowed security thread, fine intaglio letterpress details, micro-printed central bank text, and an electrotype watermark field depicting Philip Gomani II.
