This lot features two iconic examples of mid-century American paper currency, each representing a different type of government obligation.
$2 Red Seal United States Note (Series 1953A): Serial A55251865A.
Why It’s Special: This series is part of the first major design overhaul for small-size $2 bills, moving the Treasury seal to the right side. It features the signatures of Priest and Anderson. Unlike Federal Reserve Notes, these were issued directly by the U.S. Treasury.
$1 Silver Certificate Blue Seal (Series 1935E): Serial L56414730H.
Why It’s Special: This is a "No Motto" note, printed before the 1955 law mandated "In God We Trust" be added to all currency. The 1935E series is widely collected for its classic, clean reverse design and its history as a bill once exchangeable for raw silver coin or bullion.
