This is a beautiful example of a Series 1953 $10 Silver Certificate, featuring the iconic blue Treasury seal and serial numbers. These notes are a favorite among collectors as they represent the last era of $10 bills that were officially backed by silver bullion held in the U.S. Treasury.
Why It’s Special: This note features the "Obligation" clause at the bottom left: "This certifies that there is on deposit in the Treasury of the United States of America Ten Dollars in Silver Payable to the Bearer on Demand." This is a "Small Size" note, but it retains the classic design elements from the mid-century. Unlike modern $10 bills, Alexander Hamilton’s portrait is framed by a distinct border used only for Silver Certificates of this era.
Signatures: Ivy Baker Priest (Treasurer) and George M. Humphrey (Secretary of the Treasury).
