1923 $1 Silver Certificate Horse Blanket
This 1923 $1 Silver Certificate, commonly referred to as a "Horse Blanket" due to its expansive large-size format, represents the final issuance of large-size one-dollar currency in United States history. Measuring approximately 7-3/8 by 3-1/8 inches, it is nearly 50% larger than modern Federal Reserve notes. The obverse features a classic blue Treasury seal and matching blue serial numbers (H94271079D), centered around a prominent portrait of George Washington. These notes were part of the Series of 1923 (Fr. 237/238) and were legally exchangeable at the Treasury for one silver dollar. Because they were printed on high-quality paper intended for heavy circulation, finding examples today that maintain their crispness and vibrant blue ink is a priority for high-end collectors. Please refer to the photos to evaluate the presence of pinholes, corner folds, or center creases, as paper integrity is the primary driver of value for this series.
