1921 Philadelphia Morgan Silver Dollar
This 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar is a cornerstone transitional piece, marking the final year of George T. Morgan’s legendary design. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint (bearing no mint mark), this issue was resurrected after a 17-year hiatus to satisfy the requirements of the 1918 Pittman Act, which mandated the replacement of millions of silver dollars melted during World War I. Because the original hubs had been destroyed years prior, the 1921 dies were entirely re-engraved, resulting in a distinct "flatter" profile and shallower relief compared to pre-1904 issues. As the most prolific year in the series (over 44 million struck in Philadelphia alone), the 1921 is the quintessential "entry-level" Morgan for collectors. However, in today’s volatile silver market, its value is increasingly driven by its high precious metal content as much as its historical status.
